Hutt Space was a region — more than likely termed an oversector since it enclosed lesser sectors — of the Galaxy on the border between the Mid Rim and the Outer Rim, near the entrance to Wild Space. It also encompassed the Si'Klaata Cluster, and bordered on the Tion Hegemony. Hutt Space was named for the Hutt species, who dominated the region. Differing accounts attributed different numbers of planets in Hutt Space, but reasonable estimates range from a few hundred to a thousand inhabited worlds. The far end of Hutt Space tapered into The Maw.

Hutt Space was what remained of the ancient Hutt Empire, which existed in the times before Xim the Despot. The Hutt Grand Council controlled the region by overseeing the activities of the Hutt clans (or kajidics) and their criminal syndicates. As a result, Hutt Space was not the most lawful place in the Galaxy.

During the rule of the Galactic Empire, it was governed by Moff Sarn Shild, and later by Moff Yref Orgege, though their authority was weak at best. From the fall of the Empire to the present day, Hutt Space seems to have remained largely autonomous.

The Hutt Grand Council[]

The Hutt Grand Council, formally called the Clans of the Ancients, was the ruling political body of Nal Hutta and the Hutt race. Composed of every Hutt clan, the Council ruled all of Hutt Space. They governed all clans fairly, giving favor to none, and Hutts all over the Galaxy abided by their decrees. The decision making process was generally unknown, but it seemed that the most powerful of the kajidics (the Hutt criminal syndicates) held the most authority; thus, the head of the most powerful kajidic was the de facto leader of the Hutt race.

Intergalactic Dealings[]

Hutt Space is generally an exotic, lawless region that is equally enticing and forboding. Life has little value here, and enslavement, either monetary or physical, is a frequent punishment for all sorts of transgressions. Just about everything is used and abused, and underhanded dealings are the norm. It's a haven for all sorts of Underworld characters, such as pirates, smugglers, looters, traffickers, fencers, pimps, and slicers. Bounty hunters and henchmen are the only sort of "law enforcement" in the region, and what law they are enforcing at any one moment is all relative.

Due to its proximity, Hutt Space projects a great deal of influence on planets such as Ryloth and Tatooine, often in a corruptive manner. On the other side, attempts at interloping into Deralian culture have been rebuffed, and the DCU takes a hard line on keeping Hutt influence out of its territory, especially Kasputin Yar.
